Fan appreciation abounds at Pirate Caravan
Somerset, PA -- Freshly signed to a long term contract
with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Ryan Doumit took to the road with the Pirates Caravan which started Jan. 18 at Seven Springs
Mountain Resort.
Doumit greeted fans, signed autographs and played Deal or No Deal with
the fans as part of the opening festivities for what would be a week-long road tour before making two appearances at PirateFest
at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.
Anyone in the autograph line to see Manager John Russell, Pitcher Sean
Burnett, Doumit and Third Baseman Andy LaRoche heard a lot of well-wishes for Doumit and congratulations on his new contract
that ties up three years with the Pirates with a minimum $11.5 million.
Also at the Caravan kick-off were Third Base Coach Tony Beasely, Gold Glove
winner/centerfielder Nate McLouth, Pitcher Ross Ohlendorf and Pitcher Paul Maholm. Pirates play-by-play caller Greg Brown,
and color analysts Bob Walk and John Wehner, as well as President Frank Coonelly and owner Bob Nutting were also there on
opening night.
